In 2021, overseas purchases of synthetic latex rubber were finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, recorded a slight descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 16%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, synthetic latex rubber imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a noticeable decline. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest synthetic latex rubber supplier to the Netherlands, accounting for a 64% share of total imports. Moreover, synthetic latex rubber imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Japan (X tons), with a 2.4% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (-4.2% per year) and Japan (+20.9% per year).

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the price for Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
