Vaccine Market Size in the Netherlands

In 2022, the Dutch vaccine market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, consumption posted a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 307% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced modestly in the following year.

Germany (X tons), the UK (X tons) and Indonesia (X tons) were the main destinations of vaccine exports from the Netherlands, with a combined 45% share of total exports. Italy, Kenya, the Philippines, Vietnam, Paraguay, Ireland, the United Arab Emirates, Sweden, Hungary and Mozambique lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Vietnam (with a CAGR of +78.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Indonesia ($X) and the UK ($X) were the largest markets for vaccine exported from the Netherlands worldwide, with a combined 51% share of total exports.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Indonesia, with a CAGR of +76.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average vaccine export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 14% against the previous year. Overall, the export price posted buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 29%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Paraguay ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+15.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of vaccines for human medicine decreased by -3.8% to X tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 280% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, vaccine imports dropped markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 471%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2021, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of vaccine to the Netherlands, accounting for a 53% share of total imports. Moreover, vaccine imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Hungary (X tons), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Spain (X tons), with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United States stood at +3.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Hungary (+96.4% per year) and Spain (+60.0% per year).

In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of vaccines for human medicine to the Netherlands, comprising 30% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Spain ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Italy, with a 9.3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from the United States totaled +9.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+56.7% per year) and Italy (+169.2% per year).

In 2022, the average vaccine import price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -31.3% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, posted a strong increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average import price increased by 158%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
