Circuit Breaker Market Size in New Zealand

The New Zealand circuit breaker market declined to $X in 2022, with a decrease of -6% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +54.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 92%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, circuit breaker exports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a noticeable downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 86% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Australia (X units) was the main destination for circuit breaker exports from New Zealand, with a 50% share of total exports. Moreover, circuit breaker exports to Australia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, India (X units), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Fiji (X units), with an 8.9% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Australia was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: India (-11.0% per year) and Fiji (+18.5% per year).

In value terms, Australia ($X) remains the key foreign market for automatic circuit breakers exports from New Zealand, comprising 51% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the UK ($X), with an 8.8% share of total exports. It was followed by South Africa, with an 8.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Australia stood at +3.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the UK (+49.6% per year) and South Africa (-2.9% per year).

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 50%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, circuit breaker imports shrank modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a slight increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +56.1% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 58%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then contracted slightly in the following year.

China (X units), Australia (X units) and India (X units) were the main suppliers of circuit breaker imports to New Zealand, together accounting for 62% of total imports. Italy, Germany, Belgium, France, Bulgaria, Thailand, Japan, Indonesia, Sweden and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Italy (with a CAGR of +22.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a pronounced reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the average import price increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per unit), while the price for Hungary ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+9.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
