In 2022, the New Zealand banana and plantain market increased by 0.2% to $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 5.1%. French Polynesia (X tons), Singapore (X tons) and Fiji (X tons) were the main destinations of banana and plantain exports from New Zealand, together accounting for 93% of total exports.

Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
