Cook Islands (X tons) was the main destination for cement exports from New Zealand, with a 50% share of total exports. The third position in this ranking was taken by Tonga (X tons), with an 8.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Cook Islands was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: American Samoa (-19.1% per year) and Tonga (-25.5% per year).
In value terms, Cook Islands ($X), American Samoa ($X) and Tonga ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for cement exported from New Zealand worldwide, with a combined 79% share of total exports. Fiji, Niue, Pitcairn Islands, Norfolk Island, Vanuatu and Samoa lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 68% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Fiji ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Vanuatu ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Tonga (+14.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cement imports into New Zealand shrank markedly to X tons in 2022, reducing by -82.5% compared with the year before. In general, imports showed a dramatic decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 365%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cement imports reduced markedly to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt descent. In 2022, Malaysia (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of cement to New Zealand, accounting for a 62% share of total imports. Moreover, cement imports from Malaysia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Australia (X tons), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates (X tons), with an 8.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Malaysia amounted to -8.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Australia (-14.6% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+1.8% per year).
