In 2021, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of cow peas to New Zealand, accounting for a 53% share of total imports. Moreover, cow peas imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, India (X tons), threefold. Peru (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 9.4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United States totaled -9.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+2.1% per year) and Peru (-14.3% per year).
In value terms, the United States ($X), India ($X) and Peru ($X) were the largest cow peas suppliers to New Zealand, with a combined 74% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Australia, Myanmar, China and Fiji, which together accounted for a further 26%.
Among the main suppliers, China, with a CAGR of +16.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
