The New Zealand crane market reduced notably to $X in 2022, waning by -24.8% against the previous year. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 126%. Australia (X units) was the main destination for crane exports from New Zealand, with a 77% share of total exports. Moreover, crane exports to Australia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Tonga (X units), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Kuwait (X units), with a 3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Australia amounted to +7.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Tonga (+64.1% per year) and Kuwait (-11.3% per year).

The average crane export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, reducing by -36.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, posted a noticeable expansion. From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kuwait (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into New Zealand
Crane imports into New Zealand fell to X units in 2022, dropping by -12.3% compared with 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 108%. Imports peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, crane imports totaled $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 94% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Germany (X units), Japan (X units) and Canada (X units) were the main suppliers of crane imports to New Zealand, together accounting for 51% of total imports. Austria, the United States, China, Australia, Ireland, Italy, the UK, Malaysia, Denmark and Poland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 44%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Malaysia (with a CAGR of +68.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Austria ($X per unit), while the price for China ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
