In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 90%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, steel stranded wire imports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +51.6% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

China (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Australia (X tons) were the main suppliers of steel stranded wire imports to New Zealand, with a combined 62% share of total imports. Malaysia, South Korea, India and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +59.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, China ($X), Indonesia ($X) and South Korea ($X) were the largest steel stranded wire suppliers to New Zealand, together accounting for 58% of total imports. Australia, India, Malaysia and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.
