In 2021, purchases abroad of jams, jellies, puree and pastes increased by 0.4% to X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 13%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, jam, jelly, puree and paste imports rose remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
India (X tons), Chile (X tons) and Ecuador (X tons) were the main suppliers of jam, jelly, puree and paste imports to New Zealand, with a combined 53% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the United Arab Emirates, China, Australia, Poland, Colombia, Spain, Mexico, France, the Philippines and Argentina, which together accounted for a further 38%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the United Arab Emirates (with a CAGR of +105.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest jam, jelly, puree and paste suppliers to New Zealand were Chile ($X), India ($X) and Ecuador ($X), together accounting for 36% of total imports. These countries were followed by Australia, the United Arab Emirates, France, China, Spain, Poland, Colombia, Mexico, the Philippines and Argentina, which together accounted for a further 45%.
The United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +114.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average import price for jams, jellies, puree and pastes stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 4.9% against the previous year.
