In 2022, after ten years of growth, there was significant decline in the New Zealand pimenta pepper market, when its value decreased by -10.5% to $X. In 2022, overseas purchases of pimenta pepper decreased by -18.6% to X tons for the first time since 2015, thus ending a six-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, showed prominent growth. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then declined sharply in the following year.

In value terms, pimenta pepper imports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 49% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank in the following year.

Spain (X tons), India (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of pimenta pepper imports to New Zealand, with a combined 70% share of total imports. Turkey, Australia, Malaysia, South Korea and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Turkey (with a CAGR of +76.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
