Artificial Staple Fibre Market Size in Nigeria
The Nigerien artificial staple fibre market plummeted to $X in 2021, declining by -32.6% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, recorded a slight increase. As a result, consumption attained the peak level of $X, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.
Artificial Staple Fibre Production in Nigeria
In value terms, artificial staple fibre production declined significantly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, recorded a mild increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the production volume increased by 180% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

Exports from Nigeria
After two years of decline, overseas shipments of artificial staple fibres decreased by -39.8% to X kg in 2016. In general, exports, however, saw a prominent expansion. The exports peaked at X kg in 2015, and then contracted markedly in the following year.
In value terms, artificial staple fibre exports fell notably to $X in 2016. Overall, exports faced a precipitous curtailment. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2016, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Burkina Faso (X kg) was the main destination for artificial staple fibre exports from Nigeria, with a 96% share of total exports. Moreover, artificial staple fibre exports to Burkina Faso exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Ghana (X kg), more than tenfold.
From 2013 to 2016, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Burkina Faso was relatively modest.
In value terms, Burkina Faso ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for artificial staple fibres exports from Nigeria, comprising 86% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Ghana ($X), with a 14% share of total exports.
From 2013 to 2016, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Burkina Faso was relatively modest.
Export Prices by Country
The average artificial staple fibre export price stood at $X per ton in 2016, waning by -20% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a significant decline. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2016, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2016, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Burkina Faso totaled $X per ton.
From 2013 to 2016, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ghana (+163.2%).
Artificial Staple Fibre Imports
Imports into Nigeria
After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of artificial staple fibres decreased by -44.1% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 203% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, artificial staple fibre imports dropped significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 183%. Imports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Germany (X tons), India (X tons) and China (X kg) were the main suppliers of artificial staple fibre imports to Nigeria, with a combined 100% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Germany (with a CAGR of +20.5%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of artificial staple fibres to Nigeria, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by India ($X), with an 18% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany amounted to +29.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: India (+6.8% per year) and China (-19.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average artificial staple fibre import price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 43% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
