The exports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, chlorides exports stood at $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 431% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Benin (X tons) and Niger (X tons) were the main destinations of chlorides exports from Nigeria.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Benin (with a CAGR of +8.6%).
In value terms, Benin ($X) and Niger ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for chlorides exported from Nigeria worldwide.
Benin, with a CAGR of +28.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review.

The average chlorides export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -39.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 87%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank sharply in the following year.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Benin ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Niger amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Benin (+18.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Nigeria
In 2021, purchases abroad of chlorides (excluding ammonium chloride) decreased by -19.3% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports recorded a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 79%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, chlorides imports fell remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a pronounced decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 77% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Egypt (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of chlorides to Nigeria, accounting for a 40% share of total imports. Moreover, chlorides imports from Egypt exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Netherlands (X tons), with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Egypt totaled +53.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (-21.5% per year) and the Netherlands (+26.1% per year).
In value terms, Egypt ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and China ($X) were the largest chlorides suppliers to Nigeria, with a combined 39% share of total imports.
Egypt, with a CAGR of +44.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average chlorides import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -17% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, chlorides import price decreased by -38.6% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 31%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the price for Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+11.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
