The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 715% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated pineapple juice exports dropped remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 363%. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Burkina Faso (X tons) was the main destination for concentrated pineapple juice exports from Nigeria, with a 93% share of total exports. It was followed by Niger (X kg), with a 2.5% share of total exports. Senegal (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 2.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Burkina Faso totaled +9.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Niger (+5.3% per year) and Senegal (-26.2% per year).

In 2021, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of concentrated pineapple juice, when their volume decreased by -60% to X tons. In general, imports, however, showed temperate growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 350%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, concentrated pineapple juice imports dropped rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a perceptible expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 339%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then declined significantly in the following year.

In 2021, Brazil (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of concentrated pineapple juice to Nigeria, accounting for a 55% share of total imports. Moreover, concentrated pineapple juice imports from Brazil exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tons), threefold. Thailand (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Brazil stood at +3.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+24.8% per year) and Thailand (-2.4% per year).

In value terms, the largest concentrated pineapple juice suppliers to Nigeria were Brazil ($X), Barbados ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together comprising 81% of total imports. Germany, Thailand and Indonesia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 15%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Indonesia, with a CAGR of +35.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a slight reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Barbados ($X per ton), while the price for Thailand ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
