Benin (X kg), Niger (X kg) and Ghana (X kg) were the main destinations of direct dye exports from Nigeria.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Niger (with a CAGR of +42.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, Niger ($X) remains the key foreign market for direct dyes and preparations based thereon exports from Nigeria, comprising 54% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Ghana ($X), with a 26% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Niger totaled +47.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Ghana (-9.5% per year) and Benin (+25.4% per year).

In 2021, the average direct dye export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 23% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. From 2014 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ghana ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Benin ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ghana (+10.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

After two years of decline, purchases abroad of direct dyes and preparations based thereon increased by 274% to X tons in 2021. In general, imports showed a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 with an increase of 650% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, direct dye imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 442%. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Belgium (X tons) were the main suppliers of direct dye imports to Nigeria, with a combined 67% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by China (with a CAGR of +84.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Thailand ($X) constituted the largest supplier of direct dyes and preparations based thereon to Nigeria, comprising 36% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by China ($X), with a 6.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Spain, with a 5.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Thailand amounted to +78.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: China (+80.1% per year) and Spain (-15.0% per year).
