Benin (X tons) was the main destination for leek exports from Nigeria, accounting for a 99% share of total exports. It was followed by Niger (X kg), with a 0.8% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Benin amounted to +43.5%.
In value terms, Benin ($X) remains the key foreign market for leeks and other alliaceous vegetables exports from Nigeria, comprising 99% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Niger ($X), with a 0.5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Benin totaled +42.8%.

In 2022, the average leek export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 18% against the previous year. Overall, the export price enjoyed strong growth. Imports into Nigeria
In 2022, purchases abroad of leeks and other alliaceous vegetables was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Over the period under review, imports recorded a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 340%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, leek imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports saw significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 355%. Imports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of leek to Nigeria, accounting for a 83% share of total imports. Moreover, leek imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X kg), sevenfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the United States totaled +28.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+86.3% per year) and Niger (+3.6% per year).
