In 2022, the amount of nonwoven fabrics exported from Nigeria declined to X tons, waning by -13.7% against the year before. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a precipitous contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 168%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, nonwoven fabric exports dropped to $X in 2022. In general, exports faced a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 42% against the previous year. After two years of growth, supplies from abroad of nonwoven fabrics decreased by -29.9% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a modest expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 106%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

In value terms, nonwoven fabric imports dropped to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 77% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

China (X tons), Egypt (X tons) and Hong Kong SAR (X tons) were the main suppliers of nonwoven fabric imports to Nigeria, with a combined 42% share of total imports. Italy, Turkey, Israel, France, Germany, Bolivia, India, the Czech Republic and Saudi Arabia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 19%.

Germany, with a CAGR of +21.8%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average nonwoven fabric import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 27% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average import price increased by 182%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Bolivia ($X per ton), while the price for Hong Kong SAR ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
