In general, exports recorded a precipitous decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by 235%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X square meters. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, photographic film exports reduced notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when exports increased by 1,398% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Ghana (X square meters) was the main destination for photographic film exports from Nigeria, with a 45% share of total exports. Moreover, photographic film exports to Ghana exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Niger (X square meters), twofold. Cote d'Ivoire (X square meters) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 15% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Ghana amounted to -23.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Niger (-11.6% per year) and Cote d'Ivoire (-0.1% per year).
In value terms, Cote d'Ivoire ($X) remains the key foreign market for photographic plates and film, photographic paper, paperboard and textiles and instant print film, sensitized, unexposed exports from Nigeria, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Niger ($X), with an 8.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Ghana, with a 3.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Cote d'Ivoire amounted to +7.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Niger (-14.7% per year) and Ghana (-19.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average photographic film export price amounted to $X per square meter, with a decrease of -29% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, posted a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the average export price increased by 347% against the previous year. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 259%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X square meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, photographic film imports fell notably to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 214%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, China (X square meters) constituted the largest supplier of photographic film to Nigeria, with a 46% share of total imports. Moreover, photographic film imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X square meters), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by India (X square meters), with a 6.1% share.

The second position in the ranking was taken by the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a 5.5% share of total imports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to -8.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (-7.8% per year) and Belgium (-12.9% per year).
