Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, pork imports rose notably to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, recorded a deep downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 56%. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Italy (X tons), South Africa (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main suppliers of pork imports to Nigeria, together comprising 60% of total imports. The Netherlands, the UK and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 9.7%.
