From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, rapeseed oil exports expanded notably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports faced a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 126%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2016 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Sweden (X kg) was the main destination for rapeseed oil exports from Nigeria, with a 48% share of total exports. Moreover, rapeseed oil exports to Sweden exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Benin (X kg), fourfold. Niger (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.2% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Sweden was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Benin (-38.6% per year) and Niger (-33.5% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for rapeseed oil exported from Nigeria were Benin ($X), Sweden ($X) and Niger ($X), together comprising 69% of total exports.
Among the main countries of destination, Sweden, with a CAGR of 0.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.
Export Prices by Country
The average rapeseed oil export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, with an increase of 31% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 160%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Benin ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Benin (+38.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Nigeria
In 2022, approx. X tons of rapeseed oil were imported into Nigeria; picking up by 170% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports showed buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 234% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, rapeseed oil imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 235%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Canada (X tons), China (X tons) and the Netherlands (X tons) were the main suppliers of rapeseed oil imports to Nigeria, together comprising 71% of total imports. Germany, Singapore, India, France and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 13%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Germany (with a CAGR of +39.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Canada ($X) and China ($X) appeared to be the largest rapeseed oil suppliers to Nigeria, together comprising 52% of total imports.
China, with a CAGR of +39.3%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average rapeseed oil import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -23.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 52%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($X per ton), while the price for Canada ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+11.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
