The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 20,931%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, refined coconut oil exports fell remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 4,176%. The exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Benin (X tons) was the main destination for refined coconut oil exports from Nigeria, with a 86% share of total exports. Moreover, refined coconut oil exports to Benin exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Niger (X kg), ninefold.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 332% against the previous year. In 2022, refined coconut oil imports into Nigeria rose rapidly to X tons, picking up by 8.7% compared with 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 346% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, refined coconut oil imports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 487%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2022, India (X kg) constituted the largest supplier of refined coconut oil to Nigeria, accounting for a 51% share of total imports. Moreover, refined coconut oil imports from India exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the United Arab Emirates (X kg), fourfold. Malaysia (X kg) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from India stood at +26.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the United Arab Emirates (+33.1% per year) and Malaysia (-25.3% per year).

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average import price increased by 111% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while the price for Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
