The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 451%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.
In value terms, rennet imports reached $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 382% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the United States (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of rennet to Nigeria, with a 63% share of total imports. Moreover, rennet imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Denmark (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the Netherlands (X tons), with a 6.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United States totaled +80.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Denmark (+33.7% per year) and the Netherlands (+76.9% per year).
In value terms, the largest rennet suppliers to Nigeria were the United States ($X), Denmark ($X) and the Netherlands ($X), together accounting for 92% of total imports.
