In value terms, sheepskin and lambskin exports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when exports increased by 310%. The exports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

India (X tons) was the main destination for sheepskin and lambskin exports from Nigeria, accounting for a 81% share of total exports. Moreover, sheepskin and lambskin exports to India exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Italy (X tons), eightfold.

Overall, imports, however, saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 3,040%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, sheepskin and lambskin imports reduced notably to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, posted a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 1,666% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted notably in the following year.
Imports by Country
Italy (X tons), Canada (X tons) and China (X tons) were the main suppliers of sheepskin and lambskin imports to Nigeria, with a combined 70% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Italy (with a CAGR of +14,944.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Italy ($X), Canada ($X) and China ($X) were the largest sheepskin and lambskin suppliers to Nigeria, together comprising 75% of total imports.
