Exports in Northern America

In 2022, overseas purchases of cassava decreased by -2.4% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after six years of growth. Over the period under review, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 11%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, cassava imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
The United States dominates imports structure, finishing at X tons, which was approx. 94% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Canada (X tons), constituting a 6.3% share of total imports.
The United States experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of cassava. At the same time, Canada (+4.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Canada emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Northern America, with a CAGR of +4.2% from 2012-2022. While the share of Canada (+2.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of the United States (-2.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, the United States ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported cassava in Northern America, comprising 93% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Canada ($X), with a 7.2% share of total imports.
