The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 31%. Over the period under review, the exports of hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then shrank markedly in the following year.

In value terms, imports of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres shrank to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 54%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

The United States represented the key importer of coconut, abaca, ramie and other vegetable textile fibres in Northern America, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was near 81% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Canada (X tons), creating a 19% share of total imports.
