In 2021, shipments abroad of desktop computers increased by 24% to X units for the first time since 2013, thus ending a seven-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable setback. From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to desktop computer exports from the United States stood at -3.4%. Canada (-1.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Canada (+4.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the United States saw its share reduced by -4.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the largest desktop computer supplier in Northern America, comprising 88% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Canada ($X), with a 12% share of total exports.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of desktop computers decreased by -10.1% to X units, falling for the second consecutive year after four years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a moderate increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 83% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, desktop computer imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

The United States represented the main importer of desktop computers in Northern America, with the volume of imports resulting at X units, which was approx. 84% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Canada (X units), constituting a 16% share of total imports.
