Exports in Northern America
After three years of decline, shipments abroad of hairpins, curling pins, curling grips and hair-curlers increased by 19% to X tons in 2021. The United States prevails in exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 91% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Canada (X tons), constituting a 9.3% share of total exports.
Exports from the United States decreased at an average annual rate of -14.4% from 2012 to 2021. Canada (-11.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Canada (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of the United States (-1.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the largest hairpin supplier in Northern America, comprising 96% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Canada ($X), with a 4.5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in the United States amounted to -1.8%.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Northern America stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -15.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, enjoyed strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 54% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped markedly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while Canada stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+14.7%).

Imports in Northern America
In 2021, imports of hairpins, curling pins, curling grips and hair-curlers in Northern America skyrocketed to X tons, surging by 20% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 32%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, hairpin imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
