The North American marble and travertine market rose markedly to $X in 2021, picking up by 11% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, saw a deep setback. Imports in Northern America
In 2021, the amount of marble and travertine imported in Northern America rose markedly to X tons, surging by 5.9% compared with 2020 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a noticeable setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 22%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, marble and travertine imports stood at $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 9% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Canada represented the main importing country with an import of about X tons, which resulted at 78% of total imports. It was distantly followed by the United States (X tons), committing a 22% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to marble and travertine imports into Canada stood at -3.5%. At the same time, the United States (+5.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the United States emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Northern America, with a CAGR of +5.9% from 2012-2021. Import price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, marble and travertine import price decreased by -32.0% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the import price increased by 26%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
