In 2021, the United States (X cubic meters) represented the major exporter of nitrogen, generating 89% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Canada (X cubic meters), mixing up an 11% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to nitrogen exports from the United States stood at +8.6%. At the same time, Canada (+16.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Canada emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Northern America, with a CAGR of +16.8% from 2012-2021. In 2021, the export price in Northern America amounted to $X per cubic meter, growing by 13% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a drastic downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 25% against the previous year. In 2021, overseas purchases of nitrogen increased by 21% to X cubic meters for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 35%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X cubic meters. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, nitrogen imports rose notably to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 32%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Canada was the largest importing country with an import of about X cubic meters, which resulted at 83% of total imports. It was distantly followed by the United States (X cubic meters), making up a 17% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to nitrogen imports into Canada stood at +1.5%. At the same time, the United States (+15.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the United States emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Northern America, with a CAGR of +15.3% from 2012-2021.
