Banana Market Size in Norway

In 2022, after four years of decline, there was significant growth in the Norwegian banana market, when its value increased by 11% to $X. Overall, consumption, however, saw a slight curtailment. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The Netherlands (X kg) was the main destination for banana exports from Norway, with a 74% share of total exports. Moreover, banana exports to the Netherlands exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Switzerland (X kg), sevenfold.

In 2022, the average banana export price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 3.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 101% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of bananas was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2017, thus ending a four-year declining trend. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 5.8%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, banana imports expanded markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible setback.
