After three years of decline, the Norwegian beef market increased by 20% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Poland (X tons), Lithuania (X tons) and Ireland (X tons) were the main destinations of beef exports from Norway, together comprising 85% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Poland (with a CAGR of +190.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for beef exported from Norway were Poland ($X), Lithuania ($X) and Ireland ($X), together accounting for 89% of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Poland, with a CAGR of +152.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Namibia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+11.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Norway
In 2021, supplies from abroad of beef (cattle meat) increased by 30% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after four years of decline. In general, imports enjoyed moderate growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 94% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, beef imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of beef to Norway, with a 35% share of total imports. Moreover, beef imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Namibia (X tons), fourfold. Botswana (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany totaled -4.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Namibia (-3.7% per year) and Botswana (+14.5% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X), Namibia ($X) and Botswana ($X) appeared to be the largest beef suppliers to Norway, with a combined 52% share of total imports.
Botswana, with a CAGR of +13.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average beef import price amounted to $X per ton, surging by 5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Namibia ($X per ton), while the price for Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Botswana (-0.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
