Green Coffee Market Size in Norway

For the fourth consecutive year, the Norwegian green coffee market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 27% to $X in 2022. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, consumption attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In 2022, overseas shipments of coffee (green) increased by 32% to X tons, rising for the third year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, exports, however, faced a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 216%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, green coffee exports soared to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, faced a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 188%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Sweden (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of green coffee exports from Norway.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Germany (with a CAGR of +16.3%).

In value terms, the largest markets for green coffee exported from Norway were Sweden ($X) and Germany ($X).

The average green coffee export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, growing by 15% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Sweden amounted to $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+29.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of coffee (green) decreased by -5.3% to X tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 8.9%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, green coffee imports soared to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a mild expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +81.4% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Brazil (X tons), Colombia (X tons) and Guatemala (X tons) were the main suppliers of green coffee imports to Norway, with a combined 83% share of total imports. Kenya, Peru, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 13%.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Peru (with a CAGR of +7.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest green coffee suppliers to Norway were Colombia ($X), Brazil ($X) and Guatemala ($X), with a combined 80% share of total imports. Kenya, Peru, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 15%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Peru, with a CAGR of +9.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average green coffee import price amounted to $X per ton, rising by 48% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a perceptible increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, green coffee import price increased by +96.4% against 2019 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kenya ($X per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Costa Rica (+4.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
