In 2021, the Norwegian electronic chip market increased by 19% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2021, approx. X units of electronic chips were exported from Norway; surging by 47% against the year before. In general, exports continue to indicate resilient growth. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, electronic chip exports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +96.1% against 2014 indices. From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Sweden totaled +10.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Poland (+16.9% per year) and the United States (+0.3% per year).

In value terms, Sweden ($X) remains the key foreign market for electronic chips exports from Norway, comprising 33% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the United States ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 7.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Sweden totaled +1.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+10.8% per year) and Germany (+21.7% per year).

In 2021, the average electronic chip export price amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -21.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a noticeable downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when the average export price increased by 15% against the previous year. Imports into Norway

For the third year in a row, Norway recorded growth in purchases abroad of electronic chips, which increased by 18% to X units in 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a deep slump. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, electronic chip imports surged to $X in 2021. In general, total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +56.6% against 2019 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

China (X units), Taiwan (Chinese) (X units) and Malaysia (X units) were the main suppliers of electronic chip imports to Norway, together comprising 43% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +13.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Taiwan (Chinese) ($X), Malaysia ($X) and China ($X) were the largest electronic chip suppliers to Norway, with a combined 53% share of total imports. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 44% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per unit), while the price for Denmark ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
