In 2021, the Norwegian leather footwear market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Sweden (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Denmark (X tons) were the main destinations of leather footwear exports from Norway, together accounting for 93% of total exports. Portugal and Finland lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 3.9%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +50.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for leather footwear exported from Norway were Sweden ($X), Germany ($X) and Denmark ($X), with a combined 93% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Finland and Portugal, which together accounted for a further 2.1%.

In 2021, the average leather footwear export price amounted to $X per kg, reducing by -11.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, enjoyed a moderate increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 70%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per kg, and then dropped in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per kg), while the average price for exports to Portugal ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+6.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Norway
In 2021, supplies from abroad of leather footwear was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, saw a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 8.8% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, leather footwear imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a noticeable decline. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
China (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and Portugal (X tons) were the main suppliers of leather footwear imports to Norway, together accounting for 57% of total imports. These countries were followed by Indonesia, India, Italy, Spain, Romania, Germany, Slovakia, Bangladesh, Sweden and Denmark, which together accounted for a further 30%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Bangladesh (with a CAGR of +9.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, the largest leather footwear suppliers to Norway were China ($X), Vietnam ($X) and Portugal ($X), with a combined 52% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Italy, Indonesia, Spain, India, Romania, Germany, Slovakia, Sweden, Bangladesh and Denmark, which together accounted for a further 34%.
Bangladesh, with a CAGR of +14.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average leather footwear import price stood at $X per kg in 2021, growing by 13% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per kg), while the price for Denmark ($X per kg) was amongst the lowest.
