Frozen Potato Market Size in Norway

In 2021, the Norwegian frozen potato market decreased by -68.6% to $X for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 844%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Italy (X kg), Spain (X kg) and Germany (X kg) were the main destinations of frozen potato exports from Norway, together comprising 87% of total exports. These countries were followed by Denmark and Sweden, which together accounted for a further 13%.

Frozen potato imports into Norway expanded modestly to X tons in 2021, increasing by 4.5% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, imports, however, faced a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 16%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The average frozen potato import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 19% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.4%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
