The Netherlands (X tons) was the main destination for industrial fatty alcohols exports from Norway, with a 12% share of total exports. Moreover, industrial fatty alcohols exports to the Netherlands exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, France (X tons), twofold. The United States (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the Netherlands amounted to +1.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (-14.4% per year) and the United States (-17.1% per year).
In value terms, Spain ($X), France ($X) and the United States ($X) constituted the largest markets for industrial fatty alcohols exported from Norway worldwide, together accounting for 43% of total exports. The Netherlands, Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates and Sweden lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 12%.
Among the main countries of destination, Malaysia, with a CAGR of +30.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average industrial fatty alcohols export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, declining by -58.7% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 57% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped rapidly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United Arab Emirates ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+21.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Norway
In 2021, approx. X tons of industrial fatty alcohols were imported into Norway; with an increase of 67% compared with 2020 figures. In general, imports, however, showed a slight setback. Imports peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, industrial fatty alcohols imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a noticeable decline. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the Netherlands (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of industrial fatty alcohols to Norway, with a 82% share of total imports. Moreover, industrial fatty alcohols imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), fivefold. The UK (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 0.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from the Netherlands amounted to +44.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-12.1% per year) and the UK (-33.2% per year).
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) constituted the largest supplier of industrial fatty alcohols to Norway, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by the UK, with a 0.9% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the Netherlands stood at +40.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (-12.8% per year) and the UK (-34.5% per year).

The average industrial fatty alcohols import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced decline. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($X per ton), while the price for the UK ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Switzerland (+39.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
