Laser Market Size in Norway

In 2021, the Norwegian laser market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a three-year declining trend. In general, consumption posted a mild expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, laser exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 461% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

The United States (X units), Denmark (X units) and Sweden (X units) were the main destinations of laser exports from Norway, with a combined 64% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by the United States (with a CAGR of +50.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($X) remains the key foreign market for laser exports from Norway, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 6.8% share of total exports. It was followed by France, with a 6.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to the United States stood at +106.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (-5.2% per year) and France (+59.2% per year).

In value terms, laser imports surged to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 56% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of laser to Norway, accounting for a 71% share of total imports. Moreover, laser imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Denmark (X units), eightfold. Germany (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 6.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China amounted to +9.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Denmark (+12.7% per year) and Germany (+9.9% per year).

Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the price for Taiwan (Chinese) ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
