The exports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Japan (X tons) was the main destination for preserved mackerel exports from Norway, with a 54% share of total exports. In value terms, preserved mackerel imports contracted notably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, Sweden (X tons) constituted the largest preserved mackerel supplier to Norway, with a 89% share of total imports. Moreover, preserved mackerel imports from Sweden exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (X tons), more than tenfold.
