The exports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, nail and bolt exports amounted to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a perceptible reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 27%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Denmark (X tons) was the main destination for nail and bolt exports from Norway, with a 57% share of total exports. Moreover, nail and bolt exports to Denmark exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Sweden (X tons), fourfold. The United States (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Denmark totaled +1.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sweden (-2.1% per year) and the United States (+18.3% per year).

In value terms, Denmark ($X) remains the key foreign market for nails, tacks, staples, screws and bolts exports from Norway, comprising 31% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Sweden ($X), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 7.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Denmark was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sweden (-0.8% per year) and Germany (+3.9% per year).

The average nail and bolt export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining constant against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 41%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Finland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, overseas purchases of nails, tacks, staples, screws and bolts decreased by -4.8% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 12%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, nail and bolt imports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 13%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the near future.

China (X tons), Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons) and Sweden (X tons) were the main suppliers of nail and bolt imports to Norway, together accounting for 58% of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, Denmark, Poland, Vietnam, Finland, Austria, the UK, Malaysia, Italy and the Netherlands, which together accounted for a further 33%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Malaysia (with a CAGR of +29.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
