In 2022, the Norwegian newspaper market decreased by -8.5% to $X, falling for the sixth year in a row after three years of growth. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Finland (X units) was the main destination for newspaper exports from Norway, accounting for a 68% share of total exports. Moreover, newspaper exports to Finland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Denmark (X units), fourfold.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Finland amounted to +6.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Denmark (-21.7% per year) and Sweden (-29.5% per year).
In value terms, Finland ($X), Denmark ($X) and Sweden ($X) were the largest markets for newspaper exported from Norway worldwide, together accounting for 98% of total exports.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Finland, with a CAGR of -7.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

The average newspaper export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 3.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 74%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Sweden ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Denmark (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2022, supplies from abroad of newspapers, journals and periodicals decreased by -17.6% to X units, falling for the sixth year in a row after five years of growth. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 30% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X units in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, newspaper imports fell markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports saw a drastic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Denmark (X units), Sweden (X units) and Poland (X units) were the main suppliers of newspaper imports to Norway, together comprising 74% of total imports. Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Finland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Lithuania (with a CAGR of +24.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Sweden ($X), Denmark ($X) and Poland ($X) constituted the largest newspaper suppliers to Norway, with a combined 72% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Finland, which together accounted for a further 27%.
Lithuania, with a CAGR of +23.0%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average newspaper import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 2.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 7.7%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($X per unit), while the price for Finland ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Latvia (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
