After three years of decline, the Norwegian passenger car market increased by 44% to $X in 2021. The market value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. For the seventh year in a row, Norway recorded growth in shipments abroad of passenger cars, which increased by 52% to X units in 2021. Overall, exports showed a prominent increase. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, passenger car exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +96.1% against 2018 indices. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Poland (X units) was the main destination for passenger car exports from Norway, accounting for a 17% share of total exports. Moreover, passenger car exports to Poland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Serbia (X units), twofold. Nigeria (X units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.8% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Poland stood at +36.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Serbia (+95.6% per year) and Nigeria (-3.9% per year).

In value terms, Poland ($X), Sweden ($X) and Germany ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for passenger car exported from Norway worldwide, with a combined 31% share of total exports. Lithuania, Serbia, Ukraine, Latvia, Nigeria, Benin, Niger, Gambia, Ghana and Cameroon lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.

Serbia, with a CAGR of +95.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average passenger car export price amounted to $X per unit, flattening at the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 31%. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Niger ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, purchases abroad of passenger cars was finally on the rise to reach X units after three years of decline. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, passenger car imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Germany (X units), Mexico (X units) and China (X units) were the main suppliers of passenger car imports to Norway.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by China (with a CAGR of +70.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), China ($X) and Japan ($X) appeared to be the largest passenger car suppliers to Norway, together comprising 54% of total imports.
