Dry Peas Market Size in Norway

For the sixth year in a row, the Norwegian dry peas market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 10% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, dry peas production rose rapidly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production saw a temperate expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 173%. Dry peas production peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, approx. X tons of peas (dry) were exported from Norway; declining by -53.1% on 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 305%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, dry peas exports declined notably to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 409% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Denmark (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Estonia (X tons) were the main destinations of dry peas exports from Norway, together accounting for 99.9% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Germany (with a CAGR of +101.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, Germany ($X), Denmark ($X) and Estonia ($X) constituted the largest markets for dry peas exported from Norway worldwide, with a combined 100% share of total exports.

The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Estonia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Denmark ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+6.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Norway

After five years of growth, supplies from abroad of peas (dry) decreased by -7.1% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 66%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

In value terms, dry peas imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

The Netherlands (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Estonia (X tons) were the main suppliers of dry peas imports to Norway, together accounting for 67% of total imports. Latvia, Lithuania, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden and France lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 32%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Belgium (with a CAGR of +466.9%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Russia ($X) and Estonia ($X) appeared to be the largest dry peas suppliers to Norway, together accounting for 64% of total imports. These countries were followed by Belgium, Lithuania, Latvia, Denmark, Sweden and France, which together accounted for a further 34%.

Among the main suppliers, Belgium, with a CAGR of +373.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average dry peas import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, jumping by 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while the price for France ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Latvia (-0.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
