Perfume Market Size in Norway
In 2022, the Norwegian perfume market increased by 0.2% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market reached the maximum level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Norway
In 2022, after six years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of perfumes and toilet waters, when their volume decreased by -51.5% to X tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 95%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.
In value terms, perfume exports fell notably to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when exports increased by 186%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then contracted sharply in the following year.
Exports by Country
Germany (X tons) was the main destination for perfume exports from Norway, with a 71% share of total exports. Moreover, perfume exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Sweden (X tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Denmark (X tons), with a 4.1% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume to Germany totaled +21.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sweden (+24.0% per year) and Denmark (+9.3% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X), Sweden ($X) and Denmark ($X) were the largest markets for perfume exported from Norway worldwide, together comprising 96% of total exports.
Sweden, with a CAGR of +33.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average perfume export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -9.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, posted a measured increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 53%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then contracted in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Denmark (+18.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Norway
In 2022, the amount of perfumes and toilet waters imported into Norway fell to X tons, dropping by -10.9% on the year before. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 46% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, perfume imports shrank to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2012 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 66%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then fell in the following year.
Imports by Country
France (X tons), Spain (X tons) and Italy (X tons) were the main suppliers of perfume imports to Norway, together comprising 66% of total imports. The United States, Germany, Poland, the UK, Sweden, the Netherlands, China and Denmark lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 29%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Netherlands (with a CAGR of +19.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($X) constituted the largest supplier of perfumes and toilet waters to Norway, comprising 53% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Spain ($X), with a 9.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with an 8.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from France stood at +1.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Spain (+17.3% per year) and Germany (+3.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average perfume import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, picking up by 5.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 14%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the price for China ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Denmark (+10.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
