After two years of growth, the Norwegian potato market decreased by -13.5% to $X in 2021. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, potato exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a dramatic slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 6,406%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
The Netherlands (X tons) was the main destination for potato exports from Norway, accounting for a 92% share of total exports. Moreover, potato exports to the Netherlands exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Russia (X tons), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the Netherlands totaled +41.3%.
In value terms, Russia ($X) and the Netherlands ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for potato exported from Norway worldwide.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Russia, with a CAGR of +80.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average potato export price amounted to $X per ton, falling by -49.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a perceptible slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 165% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+37.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Norway
Potato imports into Norway contracted notably to X tons in 2021, waning by -29.1% compared with the year before. Over the period under review, imports showed a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 52%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, potato imports contracted markedly to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 33%. Imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Denmark (X tons), Israel (X tons) and France (X tons) were the main suppliers of potato imports to Norway, with a combined 81% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Israel (with a CAGR of +2.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, France ($X), Israel ($X) and Denmark ($X) appeared to be the largest potato suppliers to Norway, with a combined 80% share of total imports.
Israel, with a CAGR of +3.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average potato import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 16% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 36% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for Denmark ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+4.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
