In value terms, primary cell and battery exports stood at $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 13%. The exports peaked at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
The UK (X units), Sweden (X units) and the United States (X units) were the main destinations of primary cell and battery exports from Norway, with a combined 45% share of total exports. Germany, Iceland, Denmark, Poland, Turkey, India, the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 38%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for the Czech Republic (with a CAGR of +37.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for primary cell and battery exported from Norway were the United States ($X), the UK ($X) and the United Arab Emirates ($X), with a combined 39% share of total exports. The Netherlands, Poland, India, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, Iceland, Turkey, the Czech Republic and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, the Czech Republic, with a CAGR of +28.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average primary cell and battery export price stood at $X per unit in 2022, rising by 16% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a perceptible shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average export price increased by 17%. The export price peaked at $X per unit in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the average price for exports to Sweden ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+20.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into Norway
In 2022, primary cell and battery imports into Norway contracted slightly to X units, dropping by -3.2% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted perceptible growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 50% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, primary cell and battery imports contracted remarkably to $X in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 12%. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced markedly in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest supplier of primary cell and battery to Norway, accounting for a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, primary cell and battery imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Singapore (X units), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (X units), with an 8.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from China stood at +7.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Singapore (+31.8% per year) and Germany (-2.9% per year).
In value terms, China ($X) constituted the largest supplier of primary cells and batteries to Norway, comprising 42% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by the United States, with an 11% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from China amounted to +9.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+3.6% per year) and the United States (-1.9% per year).

The average primary cell and battery import price stood at $X per unit in 2022, dropping by -12.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price saw a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 29%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per unit), while the price for Singapore ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
