The UK (X units), Sweden (X units) and the United States (X units) were the main destinations of primary cells and primary batteries exports from Norway, with a combined 45% share of total exports. Germany, Iceland, Denmark, Poland, Turkey, India, the United Arab Emirates, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 38%.

For the fourth year in a row, Norway recorded decline in overseas purchases of primary cells and primary batteries, which decreased by -3.2% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a measured increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 50%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units. From 2019 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 12% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then plummeted in the following year.

In 2022, China (X units) constituted the largest primary cells and primary batteries supplier to Norway, with a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, primary cells and primary batteries imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Singapore (X units), sixfold. Germany (X units) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.5% share.
