From 2017 to 2022, production growth remained at a lower figure.

Exports from Norway

Sack kraft paper exports from Norway dropped remarkably to X tons in 2022, falling by -33.5% compared with the previous year. In general, exports, however, showed prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 202%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons, and then declined sharply in the following year.

In value terms, sack kraft paper exports dropped dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw notable growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 129%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank rapidly in the following year.

Saudi Arabia (X tons), Sweden (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) were the main destinations of sack kraft paper exports from Norway, together accounting for 96% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +25.5%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In value terms, Saudi Arabia ($X), Sweden ($X) and Malaysia ($X) appeared to be the largest markets for sack kraft paper exported from Norway worldwide, with a combined 92% share of total exports.

Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +17.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2022, the average sack kraft paper export price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 7.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when the average export price increased by 13%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Norway

In 2022, supplies from abroad of sack kraft paper decreased by -80.2% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed modest growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 398%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined significantly in the following year.

In value terms, sack kraft paper imports fell sharply to $X in 2022. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 204%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

Imports by Country

In 2022, Sweden (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of sack kraft paper to Norway, accounting for a 80% share of total imports. Moreover, sack kraft paper imports from Sweden exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X tons), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Finland (X tons), with a 3.1% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Sweden totaled +4.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+17.0% per year) and Finland (-10.0% per year).

In value terms, Sweden ($X) constituted the largest supplier of sack kraft paper to Norway, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Japan, with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value from Sweden stood at +6.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Germany (+14.0% per year) and Japan (+75.1% per year).

The average sack kraft paper import price stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per ton), while the price for the United States ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
