Tomato Market Size in Norway

The Norwegian tomato market rose sharply to $X in 2021, surging by 5.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The Netherlands (X tons) was the main destination for tomato exports from Norway, with a 98% share of total exports. It was followed by Russia (X kg), with a 2% share of total exports.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the key foreign market for tomato exports from Norway, comprising 97% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 3.1% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Denmark (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was growth in purchases abroad of tomatoes, when their volume increased by 2.9% to X tons. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 6.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, tomato imports expanded notably to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Spain (X tons), the Netherlands (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) were the main suppliers of tomato imports to Norway, with a combined 88% share of total imports. Belgium, Poland and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 10%.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Poland (with a CAGR of +44.7%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
