The Norwegian unvulcanized rubber market reduced modestly to $X in 2022, falling by -2.7% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, unvulcanized rubber exports rose sharply to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a deep contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Sweden (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Finland (X tons) were the main destinations of unvulcanized rubber exports from Norway, together comprising 59% of total exports. Denmark, Romania, China, Germany, Lithuania, the UK, the United States, France, Angola and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Romania (with a CAGR of +90.7%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Sweden ($X) remains the key foreign market for unvulcanized rubber and articles thereof exports from Norway, comprising 21% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Romania ($X), with a 9.1% share of total exports. It was followed by China, with a 7.8% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value to Sweden stood at +3.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Romania (+75.6% per year) and China (+52.9% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The average unvulcanized rubber export price stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 11% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 22%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+13.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Norway
In 2022, approx. X tons of unvulcanized rubber and articles thereof were imported into Norway; waning by -7% against 2021. Overall, imports saw a slight contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 10%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, unvulcanized rubber imports dropped modestly to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of unvulcanized rubber to Norway, with a 26% share of total imports. Moreover, unvulcanized rubber imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the Netherlands (X tons), twofold. Sweden (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the Netherlands (+2.3% per year) and Sweden (-7.8% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X), Sweden ($X) and Belgium ($X) constituted the largest unvulcanized rubber suppliers to Norway, with a combined 48% share of total imports. The Netherlands, the UK, France, Poland, Denmark, China, Italy, Spain, India and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 44%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Poland, with a CAGR of +23.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average unvulcanized rubber import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 5.7% against the previous year. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 9.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($X per ton), while the price for India ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
