Imports into Norway
Vanilla imports into Norway declined rapidly to X tons in 2022, waning by -37.5% on 2021. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 109% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, vanilla imports shrank sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 121%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Denmark (X tons) constituted the largest vanilla supplier to Norway, with a 32% share of total imports. Moreover, vanilla imports from Denmark exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Madagascar (X kg), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Germany (X kg), with a 3.5% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Denmark totaled +8.4%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Madagascar (-2.0% per year) and Germany (-17.0% per year).
In value terms, Madagascar ($X) constituted the largest supplier of vanilla to Norway, comprising 31% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Denmark ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 7.5% share.

Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a temperate expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 56%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while the price for Denmark ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Sweden (+19.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
