Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a sharp shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 88% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, man-made filament fabric exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, faced a deep reduction. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Poland (X tons) was the main destination for man-made filament fabric exports from Norway, with a 46% share of total exports. Moreover, man-made filament fabric exports to Poland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Estonia (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Finland (X tons), with an 11% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Poland amounted to -18.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Estonia (+5.9% per year) and Finland (-30.3% per year).

In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the key foreign market for woven fabrics of man-made filaments and staple fibers exports from Norway, comprising 39% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Sweden ($X), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by Latvia, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Poland amounted to -3.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Sweden (+3.5% per year) and Latvia (+13.6% per year).

In 2021, supplies from abroad of woven fabrics of man-made filaments and staple fibers increased by 16% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 17% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, man-made filament fabric imports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a pronounced setback. Imports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, China (X tons) constituted the largest supplier of man-made filament fabric to Norway, with a 42% share of total imports. Moreover, man-made filament fabric imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, the UK (X tons), threefold. Sweden (X tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from China totaled +11.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: the UK (+2.9% per year) and Sweden (+4.0% per year).

In value terms, China ($X), Italy ($X) and Sweden ($X) were the largest man-made filament fabric suppliers to Norway, with a combined 44% share of total imports. Belgium, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Latvia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.
